Sunrisers Hyderabad continued their Superb Start to the season by defeating Mumbai Indians by one wicket in the last ball drama at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Playing their second games, SRH won the toss and chose to bowl first. In reply, Mumbai Indians crumbled to the attack of SRH bowling (even without their pace spear-head Bhuvneshwar Kumar) before finally managing 147 on the board with the loss of 8 wickets.
Evin Lewis, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard chipped in with the twenties. Sandeep Sharma, Billy Stanlake, and Siddharth Kaul picked two wickets each.
In reply, SRH had a good start as they put up 62 runs for the first wicket. But the middle innings was too patchy where they continued to lose wickets. Shikhar Dhawan scored 45 runs off 28 balls that included 8 fours but it was Deepak Hooda who came on top of MI’s bowling in death overs to ensure a win for the home team.
The match went tight when Mistafizur Rahman picked up three wickets in the 19th over. SRH was left with just one wicket and Hooda on the strike in the last over who hit a six as they required 11 runs off the last over. The winning runs came off the bat of Billy Stanlake.
Among MI bowlers, Mayank Markande continued to shine picking up 4 wickets by giving away just 23 runs while M Rahman scalped two and Jasprit Bumrah finished with 32 for 2.
The win takes SRH to the top of the table with Chennai Super Kings. They will next face KKR on April 14 at Eden Gardens.
