Sri Lanka defeated India as Kushal Perera scored 37 balls 66 in the opener of the Nidahas tri-series on Tuesday.
The match took place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo where Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Batting first, Team India managed to post a decent score of 174 runs on the board in their 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan scored 90 off just 49 balls that included 6 fours and six sixes while Manish Pandey chipped in with 37 runs.
Chasing a target of 175, Sri Lanka didn’t get a fair bit of start but Kushal Perera’s innings helped his side reach over the victory line. He was in a very good mood and hammered the Indian bowlers out of the park. In an over of Shardul Thakur, he scored 27 runs. SL chased down the target in with 9 balls to spare.
After losing the first game, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that the players will learn from their mistakes. In the post-match presentation, he said,” A lot of credit must go to Sri Lanka, to their whole batting group. I’m sure we will learn from our mistakes.”
He was also not happy with the score they had in their 20 overs. ” I think it was a par score, definitely something we could have defended. We could have accelerated a bit more towards the end. It was a decent wicket,” he added.
Team India was without their star players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya as they all are rested.
