Over 22000 websites were hacked in between April 2017- January 2018
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) submitted a report to the parliament and mentioned that there were over 22000 websites including 114 government websites were hacked in between April 2017-January 2018.
According to the Minister of State for Electronics and IT K J Alphons, there were around 301 security alerts were issued by CERT-In during April 2017 regarding the threats and potential vulnerabilities to multiple systems and applications.
Apart, many key alerts were sent to the organizations to prevent the cyber attacks. He also added in the statement that, for further all the new websites of the government would be made with the high cyber security before the hosting and along with audit on a regular basis after hosting.
“Organizations use servers to host websites and applications for the dissemination of information and providing services to users. The servers not configured properly and having vulnerable software are prone to hacking and could be misused by cyber criminals,” he said.
According to the National Informatics Centre (NIC), there are total 74 websites of different organizations and six government websites hosted on NICNET were hacked during 2017 and 2018.
