Afghanistan: 20 killed in suicide attack on Police training centre

At least 20 people were killed and more than 150 reported injured in a suicide attack which took place at a police training centre in a southeast Afghan city on Tuesday.

It was reported that the victims of the attack include women, students and police were confirmed by the Hedayatullah Hamidi, public health director in Gardez.

Allah Mir Bahram, a member of the Paktia provincial council said in a statement, “A group of gunmen have entered the compound and fighting is ongoing”.

The deadly suicide bombing took place in Gardez City.

The death toll is expected to rise, authorities said in a statement.

It was learned that Taliban has taken the responsibility of the attack.

The interior ministry said in a statement, “At first a suicide bomber detonated a car filled with explosives near the training centre, making way for a number of attackers to start their assault”.

It was discovered that the attack took place hours after when US drone strike in Pakistan’s Kurram tribal district, which killed at least 26 Haqqani militants.
