The American tech giant Google has reportedly announced on Wednesday that it will open a new artificial intelligence research center in Beijing.
It was reported that the research center will be its first of its kind in Asia and will comprise a small team operating in Beijing.
It was learned that the artificial intelligence especially machine learning, has become an area of intense focus for American tech stalwarts Google, Microsoft and Facebook and their Chinese contender Tencent and Baidu, Alibaba.
Dr. Fei-Fei Li, Chief Scientist at Google Cloud, wrote in a blog post while announcing the plan for the China lab.
He wrote, “I believe AI and its benefits have no borders. Whether a breakthrough occurs in Silicon Valley, Beijing or anywhere else, it has the potential to make everyone’s life better. As an AI first company, this is an important part of our collective mission. And we want to work with the best AI talent, wherever that talent is, to achieve it”.
Reports say that AI research has the potential to boost developments in self-driving cars, translation products, automated factories.
Adding further to this, he said, “Besides publishing its own work, the Google AI China Center will also support the AI research community by funding and sponsoring AI conferences and workshops, and working closely with the vibrant Chinese AI research community”.
