An unidentified masked man allegedly opens fire at a Nashville church in which a woman was killed and six others were reported injured on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, about 15 km southeast of Nashville.
John Howser, spokesman for Vanderbilt University Medical Center said, “The two critical patients suffered gunshot wounds to their chest and torso”.
The Nashville Police Department confirms the death of the woman on its Twitter handle.
The body of the woman was found in the church parking lot, where seven others were found wounded inside the church.
Following this, FBI said on Sunday night that it has started civil rights investigation following the shoot at the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ.
The woman who died in the attack was identified as Melanie Smith (39) who was the resident Smyrna, Tennessee.
The gunman was identified by the authorities as 25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson who hails from Murfreesboro, came to the United States from Sudan in the year 1996.
The gunman was also among the injured, who was later discharged from Vanderbilt University Hospital but was remained in police custody.
However, no reason of the shoot has been disclosed.
