A 33-year-old Sikh man was allegedly arrested for allegedly carrying a “Kirpan”  at a grocery store in the US.

The Sikh man who was identified as Harpreet Singh Khalsa, used wear the knife known as a “Kirpan” (a ceremonial sword worn by followers of the Sikh religion) since he converted his religion into Sikhism nine years ago.

Harsimran Kaur, legal director of the New York-based Sikh Coalition said in a statement, “The kirpan obligates a Sikh to the ideals of generosity, compassion and service to humanity”.

Adding further to this he said, “It acts as a reminder to its bearer of a Sikh’s solemn duty to protect others and promote justice for all”.
