Actor and MP Mithun Chakraborty has reportedly resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Monday due to health issues.
The veteran actor said that the reason behind his resignation is his poor health.
For the past two years, Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty has been the member of the upper house. The 66-year-old was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress.
Sources said that, he was not happy after his name came highlighted in the multi-crore Saradha Chit fund scam. Although Mithun is the only one who returned the money back to the firm. The veteran actor has submitted his resignation to the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
Earlier in June this year, the actor has sent the draft of Rs 1.19 crore to Kolkata Enforcement Directorate office as the actor was summoned by the ED in the Saradha scam.
TMC’s Derek O’Brien said in a statement that, “He resigned from the Rajya Sabha on health grounds. We continue to share warm relationship with him and his family, and wish him speedy recovery”.
Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said in June he had received a letter from the Mithun Chakraborty quoting, “he is unable to attend the sittings of the House during the current session on health grounds”.
