Former Congressman and Uttarakhand chief minister ND Tiwari formally joined BJP today along with his son Rohit Shekhar at party chief Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced 64 candidates for Uttarakhand, which has 70 assembly seats.
The inclusion of ND Tiwari into BJP is seen as an attempt to secure Brahmin vote in Uttarakhand for the upcoming general election which is going to be held in next month.
Mr. Tiwari also served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice between 1976 and 1989.
Not only this, he served as Governor of Andhra Pradesh from 2007 – 2009, but later he resigned following a sex scandal.
Mr. Tiwari stepped into politics in 1952, he was elected from Nainital constituency and became an MLA on Praja Samajwadi Party ticket. He joined Indian National Congress party in 1963.
