Putting a full stop to all the speculation, the India Goods, and Services Tax (GST) is most likely to be implemented in the Jammu and Kashmir in the state from Friday midnight.
Raj Bhawan spokesman said in a statement, “The presidential order contains safeguards to maintain the special status of the state and the legislative powers under the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Following this, the Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir had passed a resolution to implement GST in the state on July 5.
It was reported that President cleared the order to pass the bill in the state and was sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The resolution quoted, “This House resolves that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir may give consent to the adoption of the GST regime by application of relevant amendments made to the Constitution of India in a modified manner to safeguard the existing special constitutional position of J&K in the Union of India and the legislative powers under the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.”
