The Supreme Court on Wednesday has issued a stripped notice against the sitting Judge of Calcutta High Court Justice C S Karnan.

Supreme Court has instructed High Court Judge to present before the court on February 13 to explain the court why no contempt proceedings should be initiated against him.

The order has been passed by the bench of seven judges which has also included the suo moto criminal proceedings against the High Court Judge C S Karnan.

In a statement, the seven-judge bench headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar said, “Issue notice to Justice C S Karnan. Returnable on February 13. Shree Justice C S Karnan shall forthwith refrain from handling any judicial or administrative work as may have been assigned to him”.

However, this is for the first time when the apex court had issued any contempt notice against any sitting judge.
