President Pranab Mukherjee has approved to a parliamentary panel’s recommendation to make Hindi language compulsory up to class tenth in all CBSE schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Development has been directed to formulate guidelines by discussing with the state government to make Hindi compulsory in the schools.
“The HRD Ministry should make serious efforts to make Hindi language compulsory in the curriculum. As a first step, Hindi should be made a compulsory subject up to standard X in all schools of CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya ,” stated in the Presidential order.
Earlier, last year, the CBSE had recommended a three – language formula which included English and two Indian language subjects for classes ninth and tenth classes to the central government.
However, the final decision is yet to be taken by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development.
