A tea seller, named Leela Ram Gujjar from Rajasthan’s Haduata region has come under the radar of Income Tax Department for allegedly paying Rs 1.05 crore as dowry for his six daughters marriage.
In a viral video, which comes into the limelight last week, Gujjar is seen counting and distributing cash to the groom’s family in front of the whole community.
Following the issue Income Tax Department summoned Gujjar but he failed to explicate his source of the income.
According to the reports, out of his six daughters, four are below 18 years which is also a punishable offense under the law.
The sub-divisional magistrate Suresh Choudhary said “Gujjar had printed the names of two of his daughters on the wedding card. They were adults. But we are investigating reports that he got his minor daughters married too. He is on the run.”
However, the probe is under process and officials are trying to trace Gujjar.
