A soldier allegedly shot dead an Army Major following a conflict over the use of a mobile phone near Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Colonel Rajesh Kalia, Defence Ministry spokesman said in a statement, “In an unfortunate incident at one of the forward posts in Uri sector, an Army officer was killed in firing by one of the jawans after an altercation”.
“The officer succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Further investigations by the Army and police are underway.”
It was reported that the soldier was directed by the major not to use his mobile phone during working hours.
Following this, soldiers reportedly open fires several shots against the officer in which Major Thapa died on the spot.
The investigation was registered by both Army and police.
