It all started with a clash between the activists AVBP and students over the invite of JNU’s Umar Khalid and Shehla for a seminar.
Although seminar was cancelled but still University of Delhi is witnessing major clashes and protest between student wings of political parties.
Following this, Gurmehar Kaur, a student of Delhi University raised her voice against the ongoing tussle which took a political turn.
She is part of the campaign ‘Save DU campaign’ which aims at student’s freedom of speech. She came up with a poster protest image, shared on Facebook, “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP”.
Her poster protest image is rolling across the country and receiving lots of controversies. Following all this Kaur had complaint that she received rape and deaths threats via comments on her social media accounts.
On Tuesday morning, Kaur announced that she is withdrawing from the campaign after receiving threats She tweeted, “I’m withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say.. I have been through a lot and this is all my 20 year self could take :)”.
In support of Gurmehar Kaur, Student wing of congress NSUI, held a protest at University of Delhi. Students from various universities including JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia and Amdedkar University also joined the protest. Not only this, Former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar also joined the event.
