The Reserve Bank of India has no information of bank accounts in which a large amount of money have been deposited between November 8 to December 30 last year i.e. post demonetisation.
This came into limelight when Chandrashekhar Gaud, an activist from Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh asked a query under the Right to Information Act.
Mr. Gaud said, “In reply to my RTI application, the Department of Currency Management of the Central bank on February 17 said it did not have the figure of bank accounts in which more than Rs 2.5 lakh were deposited in demonetised notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.”
The query also revealed that RBI is unaware of a number of bank accounts in co-operative banks with such deposits.
